It was one of those days!

by admin on March 24th, 2010

Have you ever had one of those days? Well here is one for the record books. It actually started last night to be exact. Parking the car at baseball I had just got out and was locking it up and wham, hiss, splat. Steam everywhere, water pouring out from the engine and the faint smell of sweet coolant in the air. Yep, its a radiator problem. No warning signs just Bam.

Watched the Baseball game and sent my father in law to Pep Boys for some coolant and a hose. Yep just the upper hose. Watched the baseball game (we won) and drove the crippled Jeep home. MAde it home without seizing the engine bareley and got to work on changing that hose. Not too much trouble and as quickly as it started it seemed to be over. Filled up the Radiator, cleaned up the tools, turned on the car and waited…Then there was a hiss……then some steam…..Maybe the clamp isnt tight on the hose Right……. Pin Hole in the Radiator Uhh……..

Fast forward to today. Up and at it early for Jury Duty! Made it to Ventura without seizing the engine and got to work on finding a Radiator Shop. Ventura Radiator to the rescue! Called them up and brought it over to them at the 10:00am Jury Break. Paperwork done Taxi called and off the the court house just in the nick of time.

It was a long long day. No WiFi, No Jurors needed, just me, my iPhone, and my MacBook Pro. Glad thats done for another year. The best part of the day was that phone call from Ventura Radiator telling me the Jeep was all fixed. Gave them my credit card over the phone, keyes under the mat and I was planning my taxi ride back to the shop.

Then the phone call came. Not 5 minutes after the first. “Robert…This is Randy at Ventura Radiator…..” “Seems like you Radiator Fan is not kicking in and is probably the reasons you blew your hoses and what caused the leak in the radiator…” “Need to keep the car overnight and it will be another $300+ bucks!”

So…Found a rental car place near the shop. They said that they probably would have a car but check back around 5pm? Go figure.

With a bit of a chuckle the Court Secretary said we were all excused! Fantastic! No Car?

So I did what any one would do. Get on a Bus! Really me a Bus! There were lots of them coming and going from the Government Center (A story for another post :-) ) I should mention that I have been on a bus maybe five times in my life, paid my $1.25, I only had dollar bills so the driver was not amused with me not having exact change. Told him to keep the change and he hands me a transfer paper, like I have any idea what to do with that.

Off into the blue yonder I ride. Lots of funny and interesting characters on the bus. There was one problem. Where are we going. I took a chance on this bus because it seemed to be heading in the direction I was going. Then it turned. Really it turned. No map, no route guide nothing. It was like I was supposed to know where it was going by ESP? So off the bus I go at the next stop. “Back Door Sir” Got it.

After a short stop at Coffee Bean I start to walk down Main Street. Wondering why the #6 Bus just didnt keep going straight. Well so much for my bus adventure. Keep calling the rental car place and they keep telling me “maybe” for a car. Found a patch a grass and called the taxi. Two times in one day! God must have been in a funny mood today, up the street comes the #6 Bus and it turns left and keeps going down Main street the way that I needed to go! WTH

Well I got to Enterprise and I have a Chevy Cobalt to cruise around town in. Sexy. Not even power door locks!

So back to Thousand Oaks I go. Totally defeated but lauging and planning my blog post for the day.

So how was your day?
